Logging horses like William Shakespeare
Draft horses logging in 1905

Picture of horses pulling logs

These draft horses are similar to William Shakespeare, the work horse owned by Opal's family. William Shakespeare is described as an old gray logging horse. Draft horses are much larger and stronger than other horses. They also tend to be very gentle.

Paragraph 196: Opal sings to William Shakespeare

Paragraph 218: Opal bites the chore boy for beating William Shakespeare
