A Washing Machine
An early washing machine

Photo of an early washing machine

This is a photo of the type of washing machine that most people had in 1900. That was before electricity and automatic washers.

Clothes washing used to be a long activity. When the clothes were clean they had to be wrung out and hung to dry in the sun. In winter wet clothes were hung near the wood stove to dry. Washing clothes could take most of an entire day
