Horse Logging the Near Woods
The Scott family logging in the Near Woods

Opal's family logging in the near woods

This picture shows Opal's family, the Scotts, logging with horses. The picture is not dated but was probably taken about the time of the diary in 1905. The landscape looks like it could be the area that Opal calls "the near woods".

Opal's family was in the logging and lumber business. Opal writes that "lumber folks are kindly folks". One of Opal's favorite pets is William Shakespeare, an old logging horse.
